We wrote a recount about our evacuation experience. WALT add details to our writing and edit carefully.

On Friday a week ago right when we were doing our free writing Friday, Whaea Deb told us to go get our bags and shoes. No one got their hats except for Carly Kylan and Ryan. I felt like my heart was beating so fast. When we had gone across the road we went through a gate and walked up a steep hill. When we got up the hill we had stopped for some morning tea. Then   about a quarter of the school had gotten picked up so we kept on going. And we got all the way up the hill and then that's right when my dad comes and picks me and my sister up so I had to run all the way back down again. And my sister. When we got in the van my belt was stuck behind the door so I had to open up the door but not fall out because it was a matter of life and death. When we got home Nova was begging my dad to ring mum so he finally rang her because he was sick of her whining. When my dad rang my mum my sister stole my dad's phone then one of my dad's friends came over. I was worried when I heard the car noise because I thought that it was a huge giant wave but then I realised that it was just a car. At my nan's on okahu road where my mum was with her 27 children, Kalanio and the screaming baby Mikasa she always has big  tantrums. When my brother was at school my dad had come in and got Kalani’s bag so he signed off Kalani and he zoomed off in their van so Kalani finished eating. The bridge was surged  up so my dad didn’t want to risk it. I was sad that I didn’t get a sausage sizzle but at least I was safe at home with my sister and dad. I hope everyone else was okay too.
