The Olympic Games

We are learning about the Olympic Games.

WALT skim and scan information to answer questions about the Olympics.

The Olympics began over two thousand seven hundred years ago in Olympia in ancient Greece. The Greeks took part in the Olympics to celebrate their gods Zeus and Hera. In the ancient Greek Olympic games only men and boys were allowed to compete. The Olympics take place every four years. If an athlete came second in an event they will be awarded a silver medal. Every four years the Olympic torch was lit so that the people knew about the games. The Olympic torch traveled all around ancient Greece. The symbol of the Olympic games are the five interlocking rings. The five interlocking rings represent the five continents. The paralympic games take place after the Olympic games.
